Should you buy the iPhone 18 Pro Max or the iPhone 17 Pro Max in Kenya? The iPhone 18 Pro Max (from KSh 257,000) adds the faster 2nm A20 Pro chip, a main camera with a variable aperture, quicker charging and longer battery life. The iPhone 17 Pro Max (from KSh 169,500) has the same 6.9-inch screen, the same 48MP triple-camera layout and 12GB of RAM, and costs KSh 87,500 less at 256GB. For most buyers the 17 Pro Max is the better value; the 18 Pro Max is for people who want the newest camera and the longest battery life.

What's actually new on the iPhone 18 Pro Max
- A20 Pro chip: Apple's first 2nm phone chip, faster and more power-efficient than the A19 Pro. Both phones have 12GB of RAM.
- Variable-aperture main camera: the 48MP main lens can physically change aperture, giving more natural background blur and sharper shots in bright light. The ultra-wide and 4x telephoto stay at 48MP.
- Faster charging and longer battery: about 50% in 15 minutes (down from about 20), and roughly 6 more hours of video playback by Apple's figures.
- Smaller Dynamic Island that can show up to three live activities.
- Heavier: about 249g versus about 233g.
What stays the same
The display (6.9-inch, 120Hz ProMotion), the 48MP ultra-wide and 48MP 4x telephoto cameras, 12GB of RAM, USB-C, 5G and Wi-Fi 7 are shared by both phones. Day to day, the 17 Pro Max still feels like a current flagship.
Which should you buy?
- Buy the iPhone 18 Pro Max if you shoot a lot of photos and video, want the longest battery life, or plan to keep your phone for four years or more.
- Buy the iPhone 17 Pro Max if you want a top-tier iPhone and would rather save KSh 87,500. At Dealfit it is also the only one of the two available with 2TB of storage (KSh 297,500).
- Upgrading from an iPhone 15 Pro Max or older? Either is a big step up. From a 16 Pro Max, the 18 Pro Max is the more meaningful upgrade.
Before you buy
- SIM type: the iPhone 18 Pro Max is sold in eSIM-only and Physical SIM + eSIM versions. Check that your network supports eSIM, or choose the physical SIM version.
- Check the IMEI on the box matches the one shown when you dial *#06#, and that Activation Lock is off.
- Battery health in Settings → Battery should read 100% on a new phone.
- Get a proper receipt. Businesses should ask for an ETR / eTIMS receipt so they can claim VAT.
